Next stop: Carnegie Hall

The Clear Lake High School Orchestra is headed to New York to perform on Friday at Carnegie Hall, showcase for the world's greatest soloists, conductors, and ensembles since opening its doors 1891. The orchestra triumphed over scores of musicians globally to take part in the International Band and Orchestra Festival, said Bryan Buffaloe, the school's orchestra director.

"They're pumped up," he said of his 163 students on the trip. "I'm a little nervous performing on a stage where all these major artists have performed, but we're also excited knowing that we're good enough to be asked to play there." The orchestra, which departed early Wednesday, performs at 9:30 p.m. Friday.
